Notes from the classroom:

Reading: This week we read “So You Think You Want To Be An Inventor?” It was a narrative nonfiction selection. Students learned about many different inventions, challenges inventors face, and characteristics of inventors.

Math: We have conquered long division! It is amazing how much the students have picked up in only a week! Next week we will bring our long division unit to an end. We will end the year with a unit on multiples, factors, and fractions.

Science: We continue learning about rocks and minerals. Students made mini-books to help memorize the differences between minerals and the three types of rocks.

Social Studies: We are done with the Midwest region! We will begin learning about Illinois next week!

Imagine you are a group of businesspeople who want to build a successful shopping mall in a Midwestern city…

First, students brainstormed stores that would meet the needs of the following people: farmers, office workers, factory workers, the elderly, ranchers, kids, teenagers, and people like your parents.

Second, students designed other features for the open spaces in the middle of the mall. The Mall of America has everything from fountains and benches to roller coasters to attract customers.

Our mall designs will be displayed by the IMC for a school-wide vote. What mall design will win?

If you are free, tomorrow at 2:00 we will perform our play in the gym! We look forward to showing what we have learned throughout the day and the hard work we put into making the play happen! See you there!
