Dear (Former) Miss Portelli Families,

I sincerely hope that everyone is enjoying summer break. It is hard to believe that we will be back in school in less than a month! I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone, students and families, for a wonderful school year together. It was a privilege getting to know each of you and watching the students learn and grow each day. I also wanted to thank many of you for the generous gifts and kind words you shared with me at the conclusion of the year. Your appreciation means so much to me!  As promised here are a few pictures from our wedding this summer.

Enjoy the rest of break and I hope to see you around I.T. in the fall! Keep in touch!

P.S. As of today I have removed all parents from this blog subscription. You will no longer receive emails when this blog is updated. Be sure to look into the 3rd grade teachers’ blogs! You can get to them by clicking on each teacher’s name on the staff list at the I.T. website.

There will be 20 color-coded teams. Each team will visit 10 different stations, where they will “face-off” against another team. These are going to be mixed-age groups, composed of 1st-4th grade students. The 5th graders will be leading the teams (with a teacher) and the stations.

REMINDERS: Please make sure your child is dressed to PLAY! This means gym shoes, cool clothes that can get dirty and possibly wet, and will allow them to run around. Please make sure to apply sunscreen on your child in the morning (or send it with them if they are able to apply it themselves). If your child has any outdoor allergies, please let Nurse Sarah know in advance.

Please send a water bottle with your child to school! Lunch and popsicles will also be provided for all students. Lunch will be pizza and will be served during regular lunch times in the lunchroom. (Please be advised that each student will receive only one piece of pizza.) There will also be break stations where students can refill their water bottles and have a bathroom break.

The most important reminder is that students show excellent sportsmanship during Field Day. With students of all ages playing against/with each other, it is important that older students set a great example for the younger kids. There will be no “overall winner” of field day, so it should be fun, friendly competition

The PTO website will be open this year from July 1st through July 15th. This will be your only opportunity to register for Buzz Books, Birthday Books, Hot Lunches, Assignment Notebooks and more for the 2011-2012 school year.

The lights were dim, Miles Davis played softly in the background, and the stage was set for Cafe Portelli.

The poets of Miss Portelli’s class had the chance to share and celebrate not only the publication of the 2011 Portelli’s Second Graders Poetry Anthology but an entire school year of Writer’s Workshop.

As I shared with our guests Thursday (big THANK YOU to those of you that we able to join us!) I am incredibly proud of the growth they have all made as writers this year!

I am ending this year with the hope that I showed them that writing can be a creative, fun, and rewarding process. (Especially when you get to throw the rules out the window like we did with poetry!)

If you were unable to join us the students brought home their own copy of the 2011 Portelli’s Second Graders Poetry Anthology Thursday. Be sure to have them share it with you!

I am so proud of the growth I have seen in all of my students this year.
