Musicians see private lessons as a regular part of the equation for us to be the best at what we do. Unfortunately, many people think of private lessons on their instrument like getting a math tutor – it is something they have to do because they fell behind and need to get caught up. The truth is that the students who are taking private lessons are the ones that EVERYONE ELSE is trying to catch up with!
Think about any example of a great success. Did that person make it there on his or her own? Do you think Olympic athletes just try to figure it out as best as they can on their own?
In truth, private lessons are the next step toward success for any musician. We start out together working in generally large groups, but as you become more specialized on your instrument, there are opportunities that await you that we cannot address here in a big group for 1/2 hour once a week. A private lesson teacher who specializes in your instrument will meet with you for 1/2 hour, 45 minutes, even a full hour each week to work on what YOU need and want to work on. You can go at a pace the fits your learning style. The expertise that you bring back to band will help to raise the level of the entire group – something that will increase your enjoyment even more.
If you are interested in pursuing private lessons, please contact a teacher and schedule a trial lesson. You are welcome to find your own if you would like, or if you need any help, feel free to contact me.
Here is the practice record for this week. Remember that a prepared band student is a happy band student.
Oh yea…almost forgot the weird thing. I guess you can make music in all kinds of ways!
