Ragnar For Rory

Dear Indian Trail Community,

For the past ten years, our physical education department has
sponsored the program, Jump Rope For Heart, which was created by the
American Heart Association (AHA). We have had a magical run with AHA,
almost raising $50,000.00 in the past four years. A big thanks to both
AHA and Indian Trail for support with Jump Rope For Heart.

In an effort to move forward in a new direction, it is our pleasure to
present Indian Trail’s new charity,, The Rory Deustch Foundation
(http:// www.roryd.org/welcome). Rory is a former Indian Trail student
and beloved member of our community.  At the young age of seven-years
old, he died of a brain stem glioma, a type of pediatric brain tumor.
His courage and optimism in the face of inevitable death was an
inspiration to all who knew him. The mission of The Rory David Deutsch
Foundation is to eradicate pediatric brain tumors and other
devastating childhood diseases as well as to make a difference in the
lives of afflicted children and their families. It accomplishes these
purposes by:
Funding medical research and programs.
Increasing public awareness of the Foundation’s mission.
Creating opportunities to engage young people and adults in activities
that can make a positive difference in their lives.

In May, Indian Trail School will host it’s first “Ragnar for Rory”
school-wide fundraising event to support the Rory Deustch Foundation .
In order to make this fundraiser more meaningful for students, they
will participate in a week-long distance running program that fosters
the importance of exercise, teamwork, and goal setting during p.e.
Additionally, six of our teachers will be running the official Ragnar
Relay on June 8th on a team of twelve.

The Ragnar Relay is an overnight running relay race that tests the
limits of its runners over two days from Madison, Wisconsin. to
Chicago, Illinois. Our students will also run 200 miles, but will
share the load between the Indian Trail student body (400) rather than
12. They will track their steps using pedometers on our event date and
will get to follow their progress on a map that will simulate the same
run the teachers will be doing from Madison to Chicago.  You can visit
the official Ragnar Relay website for more information:
http://www.ragnarrelay.com/

Our goal is to reach $10,000.00 in donations this year and we need
YOUR help! The Rory David Deustch Foundation a non-profit organization
and all proceeds benefit their mission. There are not any
administrative fees or promotional costs that take away from your
donation. Let your family, friends, and neighbors know about Indian
Trail’s  Ragnar for Rory. We have included a link for a sample
email/letter you can use to send to your family and friends. How else
can you help? Encourage your kids to make the most of Ragnar For Rory
week. Talk with them about the importance they play in raising
awareness about pediatric brain tumors.

If you are interested in volunteering to help out at our Running for
Rory event, please contact Ms. Henkel or Coach Funke by phone:
224-765-3487. Or email jfunke@nssd112.org and shenkel@nssd112.org

All fundraiser links can be found on our physical education department
blog: (http://blogs.nssd112.org/jfunke/) or on our school website

We are looking forward to the Indian Trail community coming together
to support the Rory Deustch Foundation.

Thank you for your support,

Coach Funke and Ms. Henkel

Boo!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

To celebrate we are going to continue our ever famous Halloween Games Unit. So kids get ready for Miss Henkel’s spookiest decorations to fill our gym. We have a couple new halloween games to play as well as a few classic games that have entertained us for the past three years since we initiated this super fun unit.

In addition to the halloween unit, our k-2 grades will partake in a castle games unit, parachute activities, and various tagging and fleeing games.

In grades 3-5, the students will take their first fitness tests of the year. They will also set their yearly fitness goals based on these tests. For any information on our fitness testing process feel free to email or call the p.e. department here at I.T.
