HPHS Football Game Info

10-1-10

  • Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the event.
  • Students will be at the activity from 6:30-8:30 PM.
  • At 8:30 PM a parent or other responsible party must be present to be with your student.  It will be very crowded on October 1st since it is homecoming. Safety first.
  • Students should bring their instrument and music to the game. (Percussionists should make arrangements with Mrs. Delligatti for equipment. BRING YOUR OWN STICKS PLEASE. Only 2 percussionists have seen me so far.)
  • If your student has not picked up the music for the game, please do so by Friday morning.
  • The student’s instrument is their “ticket” into the game.

Where do I go?

  • The middle driveway at Wolter’s Field, off Park Ave., is used as a student drop-off area.
  • We will gather with Elm Place and Edgewood  beginning at 6:30 PM on the northwest runway of the track.  (There should be a few HPHS band parents there who can help.  Students will leave their cases here.  Please keep the cases in groups by school, keep the cases closed.  Even though the area should be secure, students should not leave any valuables in their cases or in that area.

What do I wear?

  • Try to wear blue and white. If you can’t, don’t worry about it.  The weather is supposed to be cool so dress appropriately. It gets chillier than you think at night! Bring a jacket!

F.Y.I.

The HPHS Band will be marching from the high school in the parade and will arrive at the stadium about 6:30.  There will be  a short break and then perform pre-game at about 6:50 PM.  Parents, Park Ave. West will be backed up with traffic because of the parade. Please plan ahead.

What do we play?

We will perform the tunes I have passed out  at 1st and 3rd quarters and at any timeouts.  The HPHS fight songs will be performed for touchdowns and big plays.  The HPHS Band will play a number of short cheers and vamps.  Your students are invited to cheer loudly with our band.

Bandstand (high school band parent organization)  will have some treats for your students after halftime and during the first half of third quarter. Parents should meet us here after half time.  (Usually around 8:30 PM) Your students may leave at this time or may stay for the remainder of the game with parental supervision.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

It’s time to register for IMEA.  Each fall the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) hosts a district festival.  Members of these honors groups are chosen through a highly competitive audition process.  We will start the process of preparing for these auditions this week. During, before and after school opportunities will be available for students to prepare.   Please note the following audition dates and mark them on your calendar if your student will be participating in the process:

  • October 2, 2010 IMEA Junior Band Auditions at Washburne, Middle School in Winnetka
  • Octoboer 5, 2010 IMEA Junior Orchestra Auditions at Daniel Wright Middle School in Lincolnshire
  • November 6, 2010 IMEA District Festival (concert) November 6, 2010

Names of participating students must be entered into the state system by September 15, 2010.  All of Mrs. Delligatti’s band and orchestra students are eligible to participate and are encouraged to participate in the audition process.  If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.  mdelligatti@nssd112.org  or ext 257.

Yes folks, that’s right!  This year the band and orchestra room will also welcome members of the Northwood Chorus into it’s doors!  As our traditional director begins a family I will be directing chorus this one year.  There will be informational meetings during lunch on September 7th.  Chorus will officially start next week, the week of September 13, 2010.  If your student would like to join chorus but cannot attend the meeting for whatever reason, please have them see me for the informational paper.  I look forward to this opportunity  and to getting to know even more wonderful Northwood students! If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at mdelligtti@nssd112.org or call the school at ext. 257.

Wow!  I’ve just spent the last week meeting 70 new wonderful Husky Musicians!  We’re off and running!  Now that I’ve got an idea of how many new and continuing players there are I can start planning for our lessons and creating instrument groupings.

As a note rehearsals are on TUESDAY and FRIDAY this year.  This is a CHANGE from past practice.  The modification was made to accommodate the Creative Arts and Physical Education schedules in our building.  Lessons will then be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  As they have in the past, the lesson day will change and the period will change so students are not missing the same classes over and over again.  Students will only be scheduled to miss a class for a lesson once per quarter.

Rehearsals start tomorrow, 9/3/10.  Lessons will start next week for new players, to give them a boost!  Lessons for continuing players will begin the week of September 20, 2010.  Any continuing player that REALLY wants to come in can certainly come see me to make special arrangements.  I’m just as anxious as they are!

Here’s to the 2010-2011 school year!  It’s going to be amazing!

Welcome back returning and new players in our Husky bands and orchestras!  I am excited to get the groups playing so note the following things:

1.  If you need to get your instrument back from the rental store, do it NOW!  Elementary schools will be holding recruitment sessions and you don’t want to get the “left overs!”

2. I will be meeting with all 6th grade players as well as 7th and 8th grade players new to Northwood  in the next couple of weeks.

3.   All 6th grade students (and new players to Northwood) should be receiving a note from me in advisory this week.  Please review this information with your parents and return the questionnaire to me by Friday, August 27, 2010.

4. Band and Orchestra for 7th and 8th grade returning players will begin Monday, August 30th.  Please help your student be prepared.  Pull out the “old horn” and warm up!

We are welcoming almost 70 new players into the Northwood band and orchestra family.  I thank you in advance for your timely return of the forms and patience as we get started.

We will be using Powerschool, our class blog, e-mail blasts and the Tuesday Backpack to communicate this year.  I will be asking all students for parent e-mails.  If you do not wish to be contactd by e-mail, please let me know.

Here’s to a great start!

Did you know:

  • The recommended amount of practice for Northwood Band and Orchestra students in grades 6-8 is one hour a week?  If you can’t squeeze that in, try to fit in at least 3o minutes.
  • Building good practice habits is the key to success when playing an instrument?
  • If your family can’t remember the last time you’ve played your instrument and you’re having trouble in band or orchestra, that’s a clear sign you need to practice more!
  • Knowing how or what to do when you practice is just as important as finding the time to do it.
  • Check out the page, “Practice Made Simple” found under the “Practice Procedure and Tips” tab at the top of this blog for helpful work strategies.
