We need your help!!

If you have not sent in an item for your classroom’s raffle basket, please send in something from an HP store by this Friday, May 11th. The 5th Grade theme is Downtown HP. This does not have to be an expensive item. For example: you can bring in a gift card (in any amount) from your kids favorite hangout (Dairy Queen, Starbucks, NY Slices, etc). Just be sure to put any gift cards into a container from the store so that it can be seen in the basket.

Thanks so much for your help. We want to make this the most successful Funfest ever!!

The Funfest Committee.

Bring in a dollar bill to wear a hat. Don’t forget to dress in running clothes and hydrate for your Ragnar Run in PE!

Ragnar for Rory!

Dear Indian Trail Community,

Today information was sent home with your child about Indian Trail’s new charity, The Rory Deustch Foundation (http:// www.roryd.org/welcome). Rory is a former Indian Trail student and beloved member of our community. At the young age of seven-years old, he died of a brain stem glioma, a type of pediatric brain tumor. His courage and optimism in the face of inevitable death was an inspiration to all who knew him. The mission of The Rory David Deutsch Foundation is to eradicate pediatric brain tumors and other devastating childhood diseases as well as to make a difference in the lives of afflicted children and their families. It accomplishes these purposes by:

Funding medical research and programs.
Increasing public awareness of the Foundation’s mission.

Creating opportunities to engage young people and adults in activities that can make a positive difference in their lives.

During the week of April 30th – May 4th, Indian Trail School will host it’s first “Ragnar for Rory” school-wide fundraising event to support the Rory Deustch Foundation. In order to make this fundraiser meaningful for students, they will participate in a week-long distance running program that fosters the importance of exercise, teamwork, and goal setting during P.E. Additionally, six Indian Trail teachers will be running the official Ragnar Relay on June 8th.

Our goal is to reach $10,000.00 in donations this year and we need YOUR help! The Rory David Deustch Foundation is a non-profit organization and all proceeds benefit their mission.

All fundraiser links can be found on our physical education department blog: (http://blogs.nssd112.org/jfunke/) or on our school website (http://www.edline.net/pages/Indian_Trail_ES)

Show your support and “like” Ragnar for Rory on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ragnarforrory

We are looking forward to the Indian Trail community coming together to support the Rory Deustch Foundation.

Thank you for your support,

Coach Funke and Ms. Henkel

Baby Photos Needed!!!

It is time to continue a fun tradition as the yearbook is being pulled together–the fifth grade baby pictures page!

To have your fifth grade student’s baby picture included as part of this montage at the end of the yearbook, please email a photo that meets all the criteria listed below to Caitlin Lucci (celucci@nssd112.org) no later than Thursday, March 8. (This is purely optional but we hope to have as many of our fifth grade students represented as possible!)

The photo should be:
a close-up of your child when he/she was one year old or younger
of good image quality (the computer program we are using to compile the yearbook won’t accept the photo if it is too pixelated…)
an electronic .jpeg file (hard copies will NOT be accepted–if you only have a hard copy please scan it so the file can be emailed and uploaded to our site)
in color (the entire yearbook will be printed in color this year!)
emailed to celucci@nssd112.org with your child’s name as the subject no later than Thursday, March 8.
Please note that we will zoom/crop/adjust the size as necessary when formatting the page so you don’t need to worry about the dimensions of the image.

If you have any questions please contact Caitlin Lucci (celucci@nssd112.org–please don’t forget the ‘e’–otherwise it will go to Mr. Lucci at Braeside!)

Spring Conference Sign-up!

A Note from Mrs. Lucci

Calling all creative writers–it is time to submit an application to Mr. Phillips for the position of Script Writer for the 5th grade spring performance.

If interested, please submit a typed essay that highlights your qualifications for the position to Mr. Phillips by Wednesday, January 18.

Some points to consider when writing your essay:

- What makes you a good creative writer?
- Do you know a lot about Greek mythology?
- Do you have funny ideas?
- Are you a focused, responsible student who would be devoted to this project?
- Why should you be one of the few students selected from the fifth grade for this important task?

Questions? Email Mrs. Lucci: celucci@nssd112.org
